Early this year, Garrett Camp, Uber Co-Founder, has launched his own airline whose tagline is ‘Traveling with Aero is not merely flying – it is an event’.
Garret, a computer programmer by trade, considers his new concept as designed for modern life with semi-private jet flights to the world’s most in-demand destinations. His inspiration has come from the golden age of aviation.
The first flight was out of Van Nuys, California to Aspen, Colorado in early February. For this almost 2 hour flight the fare was $990. In comparison, an economy seat on a similar (LA to Aspen) non-stop flight operated by American Airlines, is barely one third the cost at $341.
Aero offers the chance for passengers to “fly smarter and safer” in small jets with just 16 seats and of course with first class service. They promise to have crowd-free private airports and lounges together with spacious cabins for an overall low-contact experience.
Baggage allowance is similar to what one would expect traveling business or first class on most airlines with three pieces totalling 68kg, as well as a single piece of hand luggage. On-board service includes a curated selection of pre-packaged, single-serve healthy snacks and light fare.
Currently, the Van Nuys-Aspen route, is the only Aero service, but the company plans to operate to upmarket beach destinations beginning this summer.
